Those Pesky Mavericks

They were counted out from the beginning. The chemistry was all wrong, the mental baggage couldn't be left behind, Dirk had fallen out of his prime, Harris wouldn't prove to be an asset at pointguard. On and on about why the Dallas Mavericks couldn't or wouldn't do it this year, is all I've heard from everyone inside and outside of Dallas this NBA season. Yet here we are 5 games from the halfway point and the Dallas Mavericks sit tied with the Phoenix Suns atop the Western Conference. With a record of 2-1 against San Antonio and Phoenix, as well as a recent mashing of the east's elite Detroit Pistons the Mavs are flying well under the radar for the success they've had as of late. Dirk looks rejuvenated with a bounce in his step. The way he has jacked up jump shots in the past few games it seems as if he is playing without a care in the world. And he has definitely hit his stride. Harris is diving and dishing, and showing flashes of light from beyond the arc. Howard is averaging over 20 a game. Dampier and Diop are both healthy and represent a demon in the back of any drivers mind as he turns the screen and thinks about taking it into the paint. The Chemistry that was lacking at the beginning of the season has been found. The ball movement has never looked so smooth. As soon as I finish typing this the Mavs will go ahead and start thinking up a way to lose in LA tomorrow night just to prove me wrong. But hey folks. How about those Mavericks?
