New Peavey Classic 30.

Brought home a new amp today. Its warn and beat up, kicked in, tweed falling off the cabinet. It is a Peavey Classic amp from the 1970s. I picked it up at a STEAL for $200 bucks. It is a full tube Class A amp that screams BEAUTIFUL tones. The more you dig in the more the amp gives. Beautiful glassy wet highs and thundering swampy lows. I've messed with it all day and played anything from sweet and beautiful Pink Floyd riffs to down right dirty and swampy Stevie Ray Vaughan licks. This amp not only does it all but it does it WELL!

The Busiest Day in Denton Dog Park History.

The gravel parking lot was loaded from front to back. The cement parking lot where I usually find my nice open spot as to not get door shot was even full. I'd say there had to be at least 30-50 dogs in a space of about 3 football fields. And of course Dallas singled out one dog to be his favorite for the day as he usually does, it just so happened to be a Great Dane, and yes, it was huge.

Support Local Music.

I was recently fortunate enough to see this band open for Jah Roots and Woodbelly on lower Greenville at the Granada. Their name is Jones, and their bursting with talent for a local unsigned band. Enjoy this clip from the concert I saw them at. The harmonica player/percussionist gets down with it on the harmonica. Don't try and resist it, just stomp along and dance around a bit.

And for your viewing pleasure a clip of Jah Roots from the same night. Definitely two of my favorite bands, and both know how to jam, so enjoy.

Offseason, Offseason.

So here is my take. The offense is fine. They just got out of rhythm, big time. They played at 50% the last 4 games of the season and lost their timing. T.O. is still healthy, and will be a playmaker for another two years. Romo is a great QB if given time to throw and will do fine in Dallas. The Offensive line will work their problems out. Look at it this way, they dominated the best Defensive Line in football (including Michael "2-toof" Strahan) 10 of 12 quarters. Barber is a great back, so Jones needs to trade Roy Williams and Jaques Reeves to Miami for their first round pick, take McFaddin as a backup. It would be an unstoppable one-two punch and Mcfadden has that breakaway speed that Barber doesn't, so it'd be a great change of pace when he came onto the field. Tank Johnson needs to be evaluated severely. If he can't get pressure up the middle like he did in Chicago, find someone who can. Use our later round picks on a safety and a solid corner. And get some pressure up the middle. Although our secondary wouldn't be great, it would be better than it is now, and with Ellis, Ware, and a middle pass rusher their deficiencies would easily be makes because the opposing QB would have no time to throw.

GO MAVS!

Welcome to Dallas. Land of Choke.

For now, I'll have to look back upon my fond memories from elementary school. Why is this? Those were the glory days. The big three Aikman, Smith, and Irvin. Who won three Superbowls in four years in '92, '93, and '95. You also have the Stars' late nineties Stanley Cup win. But who really cares about hockey south of Minnesota? Last year the Dallas Mavericks took a spot in history with the 8th best record in NBA history. They finished with a whopping 67 wins and only 15 losses. Only to run into their own worst nightmare in the first round, the Golden State Warriors. The Mavs lost the series 4-2 and took an early trip to Sandals for the off-season. What does the great city of Dallas follow that performance up with? A 13-3 season from the Dallas Cowboys that claimed the top seed in the NFC and home field advantage throughout. That was until they ran into a better prepared, hungrier, and meaner New York Giants team. The Cowboys, who looked to have control of the game just before half, went into the locker room tied after their defense failed time and time again giving up 7 points to the Giants. The blistering offense that had been praised so highly during the regular season managed to put up a whopping 3 points in the second half. Maybe Romo should have spent some more times going over coverages and checkdowns rather than smooching up the ugly one of the Simpson sisters in Cabo.

So what do we do as Dallas sports fans for now? Enjoy the regular season, then take a vacation, just as our sports teams do, during the postseason.

Those Pesky Mavericks

They were counted out from the beginning. The chemistry was all wrong, the mental baggage couldn't be left behind, Dirk had fallen out of his prime, Harris wouldn't prove to be an asset at pointguard. On and on about why the Dallas Mavericks couldn't or wouldn't do it this year, is all I've heard from everyone inside and outside of Dallas this NBA season. Yet here we are 5 games from the halfway point and the Dallas Mavericks sit tied with the Phoenix Suns atop the Western Conference. With a record of 2-1 against San Antonio and Phoenix, as well as a recent mashing of the east's elite Detroit Pistons the Mavs are flying well under the radar for the success they've had as of late. Dirk looks rejuvenated with a bounce in his step. The way he has jacked up jump shots in the past few games it seems as if he is playing without a care in the world. And he has definitely hit his stride. Harris is diving and dishing, and showing flashes of light from beyond the arc. Howard is averaging over 20 a game. Dampier and Diop are both healthy and represent a demon in the back of any drivers mind as he turns the screen and thinks about taking it into the paint. The Chemistry that was lacking at the beginning of the season has been found. The ball movement has never looked so smooth. As soon as I finish typing this the Mavs will go ahead and start thinking up a way to lose in LA tomorrow night just to prove me wrong. But hey folks. How about those Mavericks?

Dog Town, on National Geographic.

Normally my Friday night television consists of Dog Whisperer. New and repeats alike they are all great. Tonight a new show is premiering called DogTown. It is about a "No-Kill" shelter in Arizona that goes out of their way to rescue and facilitate the rehabilitation of sick, stray, abused, and aggressive dogs. It is great to see shelters of this sort becoming more and more popular. Not to say that the city shelters don't give it their best effort but the bottom line is animals in city and county shelters end up being put to sleep because the funds are lacking and the space available eventually runs out. Back on point, there is a local shelter in the DFW area called operation kindness that I have volunteered for twice. It is also a "No-Kill" shelter. It is a very well funded, built, and maintained shelter. It is fairly new, and large but nothing that would warrant a television show being plotted around it. Or so I thought. If I had all the money in the world I would open the largest "No-Kill" shelter anyone could dream up. Until then I'll have to donate and help as much as I can in other ways, but knowing that the effort is growing is enough to keep hope alive that someday every stray animal in the world may find a home.
